Diet

How your diet can help your general health and your psoriasis

Whether you have psoriasis or not, eating a healthy, balanced diet can do wonders for your overall general health. Follow these few suggestions, and you'll be well on your way:

  • Try to eat a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day—skipping meals may make you want to eat more later in the day.
  • Eat smaller portions of food.
  • Choose low-calorie foods.
  • Limit your intake of red meat and dairy products.
  • Avoid foods and beverages high in sugar.
  • Avoid foods high in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol.
  • Drink alcoholic beverages in moderation.

Although there's little scientific evidence that diet alone can improve psoriasis, new ideas in nutrition, supplements, and regimens are continuing to develop. Be sure to talk to your doctor or a nutritionist before making any extreme changes to your diet.
